DNS monitoring for records that must not change

A mistyped record or an expired domain takes everything down at once — website, email and APIs. DNS monitors resolve your records over DNS-over-HTTPS and alert if resolution fails or the answer stops matching what you expect.

What to monitor on DNS

  • 01Resolution successNXDOMAIN or SERVFAIL means users cannot reach you at all.
  • 02Answer matches expectedDetect hijacking or accidental changes to A, MX or NS records.

Set it up

  1. Create a DNS monitor

Target: your hostname. record_type: A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT or NS.

  2. Optionally set an expected value

e.g. expected: 203.0.113.10 — the check fails if no answer contains it.

Recommended alerts for DNS

  • Record fails to resolve
  • Answer no longer contains expected value
